DJ BEETLEBITCH, Dimanche Midi, Rare Spam - By J.B. BURKE

Hello, welcome to another one of these… I wanna drop right into DJ BEETLEBITCH.

This EP has got me feelin’ absolutely lopsided crazy. I feel like half my body is melting in both directions while I'm trying to play hopscotch on the wing of a plane at high speed. The drums are like a train slamming through every level barrier in a video game, and the synth sounds got a rubbery cardboard feel at times and then thicken up with some nasty distortion that I wanna consume as fast as I consume all the milk after a bowl of cocoa puffs. After doing so, feeling like a slug wondering why the hell I'm piloting a starfighter in an intense space battle. The use of echos and being chopped off dead at the tail is like finally getting the thought in your head, “what would it be like to eat roadkill backwards down a slide of knives?” All the tracks are fantastic, but i gotta say the party fucks off hard with “ACIDiii”. In my head, that track sounds like a kiwi pancake trying to make friends with a gang of pissed off hungry forks.

DIMANCHE MIDI. Again, here I come along the tracks of another “egg punk” release by accident. Only this one happens to be from France. Most everyone likes eggs and I'm assuming most people who will read this are fans of some sort of punk music. So I'd say there's a good chance you’ll appreciate music that sounds like a ghost in glitter tights. These songs make my brain attempt to remember everyword in the dictionary and then realise, “how the fuck am i memorizing all these random words? I don't even own a dictionary”. Dictionaries are for babies anyways, just remember words by magic. That’s exactly how DIMANCHE MIDI will influence you to function. Magic from France posted straight onto bandcamp. This is the kind of music you listen to while you're getting ready in the morning, and look into the mirror and realise you are YOU. Nothing wrong with that, you’re going to do great. And you will as long as you get a healthy dose of direct-in guitars, drum machines, squiggly giggly synthesizers and a language you probably can't understand. My favorite is “Call Up the F.B.I”. Screaming into a void of lost juicy circuit riffs is exactly how I was feeling, and this song really helped me realize that!

RARE SPAM. Not so rare in my email inbox, but it certainly is from a band in Montreal through a cassette record label in Berlin, Germany. I’m looking at my life in between the seams of a comic book. I swear past those two staples, I'm opening myself up into the world RARE SPAM has left for me. The unsettling exactness of the drum machine like a serial killers pace of walking on a beach at sunset, the chorus of the bass guitar is enough to explode out of a confetti cake just for you, and a guitar spiky enough to poke an eye out and know that inside that eye, there's enough strumming patterns witnessed to keep you going for years to come. My favorite track is “Thirst for Light”. These past few months have been my thirst for light and I immediately began to identify with it. And if you’re in the mood for some Pylon sounding Velvet Underground jams recorded like goth-rock demos from the 80s, that’d be the track for you.

All these releases have links are posted below, please click on them. You and the links need that connection, I promise you. Regret is not an option, it’s time to help yourself to some healthy dose of sideways music. Please grab a cassette from these bands! You will like tape, and smells good (trust me) and it sounds nice and cozy.

Now, go hug a buddy.
